Beginning / Belonging / Becoming
Oil on aluminium, triptych
In this intimate triptych, Beginning / Belonging / Becoming, I created a delicate meditation on transformation, origin, and memory. Three embryonic figures suspended in translucent ovoid forms evoke a silent chronology of becoming: from the first breath of being to the quiet pulse of belonging, and finally to the unfolding of self.
The use of aluminium as a support introduces a subtle luminosity, as if the figures are held within a membrane of light. The textures are fragile, organic, almost archaeological, revealing layers of time and skin, inviting us to reflect on the boundaries between the physical and the metaphysical, the intimate and the universal.
This work is part of the group exhibition EMBRACE (July 18 – August 3, 2025), organized by Art that Matters during Pride Amsterdam and hosted at the historic Lutheran Church in Amsterdam. The exhibition explores themes of identity, acceptance, and human vulnerability. Within this context, Beginning / Belonging / Becoming resonates as a visual lullaby and an existential fundament where what is forming is not just a body, but a way of being in the world.
Works on Aluminium
In these works on aluminium, I explore the alchemy of transparency and depth through a layered technique that combines translucent inks, gel mediums, and semi-transparent enamel paints. The metal surface serves not only as a reflective ground, but also as a silent presence that holds light, echoes time, and enhances the ethereal quality of each composition.
Layer by layer, the image emerges like a memory surfacing through sediment: partially hidden, partially revealed. This process invites slowness both in making and in viewing, suggesting that meaning is not fixed, but suspended, waiting to be felt.
Through this unique material dialogue, the works evoke a sense of fragility and resilience, inviting viewers to engage with what lies beneath the surface on both a visual and emotional level, as well as symbolically.
