Drawings

A series of drawings in pencil, charcoal, graphite and pen on A4 cardboard, begun in 2025.

After more than forty years, my hand went back to paper. The soft resistance of charcoal, an eraser rubbing out a line, the friction of graphite on the surface: I had almost forgotten these sensations, but I had never lost them.

Everything around us moves fast. Drawing slowed me down again, to the rhythm of the hand, line after line, smudge after smudge.

Almost without noticing, the drawings multiplied. Dozens of them, held together by one thread of memory, emotion and instinct: faces, bodies, objects, abstract forms. There is no undo button on paper. Every mark stays, and the work is in deciding what to keep.

This is not nostalgia. It is a return to the simplest act of making: a line that can still become anything.

Sometimes, to move forward, you have to go back to where it all began.

Disegni

Una serie di disegni a matita, carboncino, grafite e penna su cartoncino A4, iniziata nel 2025.

Dopo più di quarant’anni, la mia mano è tornata alla carta. La resistenza morbida del carboncino, la gomma che cancella una linea, l’attrito della grafite sulla superficie: erano sensazioni che avevo quasi dimenticato, ma che non avevo mai perso.

Tutto intorno a noi corre. Il disegno mi ha riportata a un ritmo lento, quello della mano, linea dopo linea, sbavatura dopo sbavatura.

Quasi senza accorgermene, i disegni si sono moltiplicati. Decine, legati da un unico filo di memoria, emozione e istinto: volti, corpi, oggetti, forme astratte. Sulla carta non esiste il tasto “annulla”. Ogni segno resta, e il lavoro sta nel decidere cosa tenere.

Non è nostalgia. È un ritorno al gesto più semplice del fare: una linea che può ancora diventare qualsiasi cosa.

A volte, per andare avanti, bisogna tornare là dove tutto è cominciato.
